Postcard, measures 5.5 x 4". Dated 1984, The Writer's Helpers, Tacoma, Washington. Commemorating Tacoma's centennial, 1894-1984. "120 Tacoma Mailmen. When Tacoma's main downtown post office opened in 1910, it was an imposing building housing the federal customs house, courts, and other government functions. The high ceilinged main floor hall, with marble, brass, and carved wood panelling, has served as Tacoma's headquarter postal office ever since. Even before the new building was completed postmen wore emblemed bowler hats, high collars and ties, and kept their boots polished as they walked their routes. Posing for a studio portrait these nine were on the job c. 41900. Photo: Tacoma Postal Museum." Excellent condition. |
